Big Girl Bed

I have always heard people say that life goes by so much quicker when you have kids. I didn't necessarily not believe them, I just (obviously) never completely understood. Well now I have a kiddo... and I understand.

Brylee is going to be TWO next week! Six short days away. I feel like we brought her home from the hospital, we blinked & now she's 2. I could talk all night about how quickly the time has flown by, but that's not the point of this post.

Brylee's first night spent in her crib

Point is, she's almost 2 and there is another baby on the way. Mr Easton will be here soon & he's going to need a place to sleep! Enter: the toddler bed (dun dun dun...)

I wasn't really sure what to expect during B's transition to the toddler bed. Bedtime has always been pretty easy for us. Sunday night we set up her 'Big Girl Bed', made a big huge deal about it & let her climb in and out to her little heart's content up until bed time. When it was finally time to say goodnight, things actually went ridiculously smoothly. No crying, no getting out of bed, nothing.

I'm really not sure why it didn't occur to me earlier, but as soon as we closed her bedroom door I realized she's going to fall out of that bed. Now, before you go accusing me of being a bad parent, let's remember that this is only a toddler bed that is only about a foot off the ground.

My mommy instincts were right on par this time. Not an hour after she went to bed, R heard a very distinct thump. She had rolled off the bed, but was still sleeping peacefully. He picked her up and placed her back in the bed. An hour or so later we heard another thump. Again, B had rolled of the bed & was again still sleeping peacefully. This time R decided we should leave her on the floor to sleep since she would most likely fall again if we put her back in bed.

She eventually woke up on the floor & wasn't thrilled about that. Back in the bed she went. By 1:00am she had rolled off of (the same side of) the bed 2 more times to make a total of 4 falls. At this point I picked her up off of the floor & brought her into our bed. Mommy needed some (uninterrupted) sleep!!

And that is the story of B's first night in her toddler bed! We have since acquired a railing for the side of the bed & have not had anymore thumps in the night :) I'm just praying that her good bedtime habits continue!

New Beginnings (again)

I feel like every time I try to start up this ole blog of mine I keep at it a little bit better than the time before. And every time I think to myself 'maybe this will be the time that sticks...'

So here's to hoping this time will be the time that sticks!

I figure right now is the perfect time to start writing again since our family has so many new things that have either recently started or will be coming soon. Some big changes, some not so huge, but all new beginnings that will change our life in some way.

R started a new job 2 weeks ago. It is a great opportunity for him & our family and I can't wait to see where it takes us.

We are hoping to put our house up for sale within the next 6 months and start building once it sells. I've gotta be honest here, this plan changes every couple months. My husband is slightly indecisive about how everything will actually go down. But with the extra income from the new job, we are hoping to have the house ready to list by the end of the year. We'll see & I'll do my best to keep the blog updated :)

Last but certainly not least, I am 30 weeks pregnant with our second baby! :) Baby Easton is due at the end of September. We are so excited to be welcoming a son into our family!! We are in the process of getting his room ready. So far R has torn out the baseboards, sanded & painted the walls. In the next 10 weeks we should be getting new carpeting (in his room as well as the other bedrooms & down the hallway), putting new baseboards down & getting all of his furniture set up.

Last time I wrote I had just started a new job. That I loved. Thank goodness I still feel the same way :) I have the perfect job. For me, at least. I am so thankful that this job basically fell into my lap last fall.

Now I know that most people only look at this to see cute pictures of my kid, so I'll try not to disappoint. Since this has been a pretty jumbled post, I figure I'll just put some pictures of some of our favorite things to do this summer...

Nanna, Brylee & Daddy taking a swim!

Eating at our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant. Yum!

Trying out her new bow at Larry's Trade Days this month. Isn't she cute?!

I know this isn't B, but here I am at 30 weeks pregnant. 10 weeks left!

This is probably one of my favorite pictures. I just took it tonight at a friend's wedding. Love those 2!!

Now don't go expecting a post everyday, but I will surely try to update at least twice a week. It should be easier with this new laptop R so graciously bought for me this week :)

I hope you all have a great week!

Brain Dump

So many things have been going on lately. I keep thinking about blogging but then putting it off because I can't seem to get a handle on all of my different thoughts. I totally failed with my 5 for Five goals. I even failed to post on Monday! But I'm giving myself a pass seeing as it was my first day at a new job. So I'll update about that next Monday. And until then, enjoy a haphazard list of all the random thoughts bumping into each other in my head.

* My beloved iPod doesn't get used much. But it seems like every time I dig it out, the only thing I want to listen to is Dashboard Confessional. They are actually playing right now, no lie. Not only do I still love this band with every fiber of my being, but it also brings so many memories and feelings flooding back. Some good, some not good at all. But all of these memories are what shaped me into the person I am now.

* We sold our puppy last week. My cousin MK had gotten really attached to her. MK got to play with her every Monday evening. This past Monday was supposed to be her last time to play with the puppy. Well I let the new owners get Cricket (the puppy) early. And then I forgot to give my aunt a heads up. Poor MK was distraught when she found out the puppy she was happily awaiting was not showing up. I felt terrible!! So I put this little goodie basket together as an 'I'm sorry!' gift

* R is going to the deer lease this weekend. It is opening weekend for him so he is really hoping to shoot something. On top of him being gone, I am sending B to stay the night with her Nanna on Friday night. I'm planning on getting some quality 'me time' getting a manicure/pedicure. I'm pretty stinkin' pumped about it!! I hope the ladies at the nail salon don't get offended that I am bringing a book to read. I hardly ever do anything alone, I'm going to soak this alllll in :)

* I started my new job this week!! To say that I absolutely love it would be an understatement. I know it has only been 4 days, but I think that I can safely say this is the job I have been looking for since I graduated high school. I don't think there is a job I am better suited for (besides being a SAHM, but I try not to even think about that). My boss is stinkin' awesome. I only have a few coworkers and they are all very nice. The only way the environment could be more laid back is if I were wearing pajamas, seriously!

* I am leaving work in 30 minutes to take B to the pumpkin patch & then back to my mom's to carve pumpkins with the family! I'm so excited :) Of course, B won't get to help with the carving but I'm sure she'll have a good 'ole time playing in the backyard. Maybe I'll remember to take some pictures to share tomorrow. Don't hold your breath :)

Have a super Thursday, y'all!!

5 for Five - Week 1

FantasticallyAverage

I've really been looking forward to this link-up for a couple of weeks :) I don't have any goals from last week to update on, so I guess I will just start with my goals for this week.

I tried to think about what I wanted my goals to be over the weekend so that I would be prepared for this post, but I wasn't very successful. So I'm kinda flying by the seat of my pants. Here goes...

My goals this week are:

1. Get all of my clients caught up by Friday (my last day at my current job!). I don't want the girl taking over my clients to start off behind. This is my most important goal for this week.

2. Blog at least two more times. I am really trying to be better about writing a few times a week. My ultimate goal is to be able to delete my Facebook page and use my blog as an update for my far-away friends & relatives.

3. Get to work early for the rest of the week. I kinda blew it this morning, I was 15 minutes late (whoops!). I want to be early for the next four days.

4. Run at least twice. Good runs. At least 2.5 miles. I have been a super slacker since I 'ran' my 5k a few weeks ago. I need to get back on track so I can run the Turkey Trot next month. With a better time!

And finally...

5. Be intentional about spending quality time with R & B (ha! not the music, my husband and kiddo :)). We need more down time just enjoying each other and less time running around like crazy people or with our eyes glued to our phones/tv.

So there are my goals for the week. What are yours??

A Fish Fry & Larry's Trade Days

This weekend was pretty crazy around our house, at least for me! Somehow I still managed to get some housework done despite the fact that I was gone for the majority of the weekend.

On Friday I left work an hour early so that I would have time to change & grab dinner before heading out to the Hamshire-Fannett football game. R & I worked the concession stand with some other friends from church. It was a lot of fun but also a lot of work. I was exhausted when we were finally done!

I spent Saturday morning and early afternoon trying to get the house cleaned up a little. Around 2:30 B & I made our way over to my parent's house for a fish fry!! I'm not a big fan of fish, but as fish goes this stuff was pretty good.

Nevermind the fish, the most important part of the afternoon is these precious pictures!

Just a swangin'...

B absolutely loves her uncle Bryce. He was swinging her by her arm & her leg and she was juuuuust a laughing!

She hasn't quite gotten the hang of this yet...

More swinging with Nanna & Grammy. Look at that face! It cracks me up every time :)

After church on Sunday the women ditched the kids with the men & ran away for an afternoon of Larry's Trade Days in Winnie. In case you're not from around here, Trade Days is pretty much a big flea market that happens once a month. We love to go browse, especially in the month's leading up to Christmas! We spent the entire afternoon there since the weather was so nice. I can't wait to go back next month!!

I hope your weekend was as good as mine :) Happy Monday, y'all!

Fitness Friday

A Daily Dose of Davis is one of the first blogs I ever started reading. She inspired me to keep going with my own little blog & also to start running :) Now she hosts a link-up every Friday to talk about fitness goals, healthy eating, new workouts, etc. I'm totally pumped to link-up with her!

I started running with a friend about 3 months ago. We tried to go 3 times a week, but with little ones and full time jobs that didn't always happen. We tried our best to be consistant so that we would be able to run a 5k together.

Well, I ran my first 5k last weekend with a time of 38 min 18 seconds. I know this isn't a super fast time, but I am really proud of myself! The bad part is that I haven't been running since! So hopefully knowing that I will be linking up every Friday will help motivate me to have something to talk about, lol. I want to run another 5k on Thanksgiving & I am hoping to be closer to 30 minutes on that one.

I'm planning on going to our local gym to run in the mornings starting this coming Monday. Hopefully I will follow through!!

My husband is rewarding me with a new pair of running shoes! Any recommendations?! :)

I don't want to leave without letting y'all know about another link-up I'm looking forward to participating in starting in a little over a week. Jessica from Fantastically Average is hosting a link-up every Monday called 5 for Five. You are supposed to list 5 goals you are setting for yourself for the week. It always helps for me to have something to works towards, so I think this will be a good way to hold myself accountable.

That's about all I have for today. Have a great weekend! HAPPY FRIDAY! :)

A Big Change & A Puppy

I have been putting this post together in my head for a couple of weeks now. And I feel like it has to be a good one since it has been so long since I last posted. So much pressure! And honestly, I don't even know what to say.

Last week I accepted a position at a different accounting firm. I have been looking for a new job for a while now. I absolutely love the firm I work for, but the hours just haven't been working for me. Anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that I would give anything to be home with B. I never wanted a career, I have always wanted to stay at home with my kids. I am in no way motivated by corporate success or 'climbing the ladder'. Unfortunately, staying home has not been an option for me. But I knew that I did have the option to find a position that would give me a little bit more flexibility to be a better mom and homemaker.

While change is a little bit scary, especially when it includes something as big as my source of income, I am really looking forward to this change. I firmly believe that this move will make a huge difference in my life personally and in my family's life as a whole. I am really excited to get a fresh start with a new firm and see where it takes me. I will be moving from a firm with about 25 employees to a firm with 5 employees total. One perk I am really looking forward to is the casual dress code :) Hello blue jeans every day!

I feel like this post has a really serious tone to it... I need something to lighten the mood!

I guess the other big thing going on in our life right now (besides deer season opening soon, LOL!) is that our dogs (Astro & Aggie) had a puppy last month! Yes, just one puppy. Why just one? I have no idea. Anyway, she is absolutely beautiful and totally up for grabs. She is a full-bred Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) with an AKC registration. We are selling her for $400. Sheltie's are awesome family dogs. They are mild-tempered, only weigh about 15 pounds, playful & fun, and ridiculously smart. Seriously. They are known for their smarts. Sometimes I think mine are smarter than me!

Here are a couple pictures. I know they aren't great, but it was hard to get a good picture of her this morning, she wouldn't stay still!

You know you want to buy that sweet puppy! Tell all your friends :)

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!
